We are excited to introduce a powerful new addition to the Lens Library: PRISM precipitation data, produced by the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University. PRISM combines point measurements of climate data with a digital elevation model to generate reliable estimates across the United States. Lens users (in Standard and Enterprise plans) now have access to monthly precipitation data, which can be added from the Lens Library.

Here are a few examples of how PRISM can be used to enhance your work:

  • Monitoring precipitation trends and patterns over time to identify trends and anomalies that can impact your land management strategies.
  • Contextualizing data about vegetation vigor and changes, such as to determine if changes in plant health are due to weather conditions, such as a dry summer, or if they indicate other underlying issues.
  • Analyzing surface water presence in relation to precipitation to understand how the seasonality of precipitation influences surface water availability, helping you to manage water resources effectively.

Analysis charts, as shown below, provide insight into year-over-year trends and seasonal changes in precipitation, and can be saved in Notes and Reports:

Additionally, PRISM data can be used with our new Lens Lookout feature. This allows you to automate the monitoring of precipitation changes, receiving alerts whenever significant shifts occur. Lens has the data you need to stay on top of changing conditions and respond to changing conditions swiftly.

If you’re excited about viewing more climate data in Lens, you’re in luck! PRISM precipitation is just the beginning, and we’ve got some exciting additions in store for later this year.
