In 2017, a critical migratory bird nesting site in South Carolina's Charleston Harbor eroded away entirely. A partnership of state, federal, and nonprofit partners took notice, and in 2021 a project to deepen the shipping channel into Charleston provided an opportunity to breathe new life into Crab Bank. Looking at high-resolution data in Lens as well as the Analyze Area tool, we can see the land loss and then the restoration of 32 acres of habitat. The following nesting season saw over 500 nesting pairs return to the island—we love a happy ending!
