Our CTO Alden Keefe Sampson had the pleasure of sharing how we evaluate our streamflow forecasting models at the 5th annual NOAA AI Workshop earlier this week. The NOAA AI workshop on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Environmental Sciences took place from September 19-21, 2023, and featured conversations on topics ranging from ethics and risk management to broader discussions like the plenary on the state of AI in the environmental sciences.

In case you missed it, or were at the workshop and would like to view the slides again, we're making Alden's presentation available in PDF format which you can download from the form below. In the presentation, Alden covers:

  • Is AI/ML a good tool for streamflow forecasting?
  • Why streamflow?
  • What drives HydroForecast's unique skill and approach?
  • Evaluating AI models with the same tried and true methods honed on traditional models
  • Using quantitative metrics to rank models, use qualitative plots to diagnose issues

Happy reading!
