What we’ve been working on

Hourly HRRR Updates in the Dashboard

Customers inside the contiguous United States and parts of Canada will now see High-Resolution Rapid Refresh forecasts (HRRR) updating every hour in the HydroForecast dashboard.

This work is a precursor to ST-3, our new HydroForecast Short-term model which will incorporate weather forecasts at a finer temporal resolution and include a host of new features. Stay tuned!

Enhanced Insights into Seasonal Flow Forecasts

Our Features team has been working on a new way to visualize the total volume of inflow expected over the upcoming season and understand the probability that flows will be above, below or near normal. Version 1 is now available in the dashboard for all customers that subscribe to HydroForecast Seasonal!

Snowmelt season is here!

With peak snowmelt upon us, this is a busy time of year for many of our customers. HydroForecast is here to help! Check out an example from one of our customers in the Pacific Northwestern United States where HydroForecast anticipated a rise in flows six days ahead of a large snowmelt pulse and out-performed NOAA’s RFC.

Out and About

Upstream’s CTO Alden Sampson Keefe is giving a two day invited seminar at ECMWF's Reading, UK headquarters, sharing lessons on using AI for hydrologic forecasting and earth system modeling that we've learned while building HydroForecast. We're looking forward to learning from ECMWF's world class team and building the foundation for future collaboration.

Jason Smith and Laura Read attended Vivatech 2024 in Paris, France from May 22- 27 where they were featured as a start-up partner with ENGIE. Check out this discussion between ENGIE-New Ventures and Laura.

Alden Keefe Sampson attended a National Academies meeting on Enabling US Leadership on AI for Weather Forecasting in mid-May.

Check out our knowledge base to learn more about using our forecasts and dashboard. Please also reach out any time at team@hydroforecast.com with any questions, ideas, or feedback!
