Built-up Index

Normalized difference built-up index is calculated using shortwave infrared (SWIR) and near-infrared (NIR) values derived from ESA Sentinel-2, launched in 2015. It highlights areas without vegetation, often capturing bare earth and impervious surfaces. Note that due to the usage of the SWIR band there may be some false positives around water and shorelines.
